Description
This is a signed Edward Elliott oil painting showing St Paul’s Cathedral from the River Thames. It belongs to his London river views, with the cathedral set beyond the boats, wharf buildings and small figures along the water.
The long narrow format gives the scene room to move from the riverside houses through to the dome on the skyline. The thick paint in the sky and foreground sits against finer detail in the buildings and rigging, with small touches of red used in the doors, sails and rooflines.
