The Essentials
Description
This mid-Victorian terrestrial table telescope was made for viewing landscapes, shipping and distant buildings, and extends to 111 cm when assembled. Its four brass draw tubes collapse into the dark hardwood barrel, while the folding tripod packs beside it in the fitted mahogany case.
John Benjamin Dancer was a notable Manchester scientific-instrument maker and an early pioneer of microphotography. The engraved Dancer Manchester signature links the set directly to the city’s Victorian scientific trade.
