The Essentials
Description
This sign was made for a Civil Defence First Aid Point, one of thousands of small emergency treatment centres established in rural and semi-rural districts during the Second World War. They provided immediate local treatment before casualties entered the wider wartime medical system.
The wording and vertical layout sit outside the standard FAP First Aid Post designs published in 1940, so it was probably commissioned for a particular building or site. With the same direct instruction on both faces, it could be suspended above an entrance and found by people approaching from either direction.
