The Essentials
Description
This is an early 20th century Rex No. 12 paper holder and cutter, made for a butcher shop, general store or packing counter. The cast iron frame carries the raised Rex name and No. 12 size marks, with the wooden rail behind the front cutting edge.
These were practical shop fittings, used to hold a roll of wrapping or butcher paper and cut it cleanly at the counter. It could be used as a shop display piece, kitchen fitting or decorative holder with a dowel added.
