About Taliesin Antiques and Kieran Hughes Jones
I started Taliesin Antiques from a simple idea. Objects survive us and carry the stories of the people who handled them. That has always interested me more than anything. There is an honesty in an object that has lived a full life. By holding it and looking closely you can feel a connection to people who are long gone.
As you may have guessed by now I am Kieran Hughes Jones. I was born and raised in Cardiff and now live just outside the city in Caerphilly. My interest in antiques developed slowly over the years, rooted in a fascination with history that I have had since childhood. I always found history more compelling than fiction and I have always been drawn to the stories and ideas behind objects from around the world. Museum visits led to research and research led to antiques. In 2021 I decided to try selling a few pieces. Since 2023 I have worked as an antiques dealer full time.
What guides this business is accuracy and respect. I do not like guesswork. I prefer to research properly, handle real examples and compare them to museum pieces, auction records and reliable reference material. If I do not know something, I say so and I find out. It matters to me that everything on this site is clear, honest and grounded in reality. I make mistakes as everyone does and I always hold my hands up when proven wrong.
My stock reflects the way I see the world. I do not focus on one culture or one type of object. You will find Chinese porcelain, Japanese metalwork, African art, Islamic pieces, European craft and Welsh material here. Different places. Different stories. All chosen for their workmanship and the thought put into them rather than any passing fashion.
The name Taliesin comes from early Welsh tradition. He is remembered as a poet and storyteller, someone who carried memory forward. That felt right for the work I do. Antiques are another way of carrying stories into the present, not in words but through objects that have lasted. The lute in the logo is a simple nod to that link between craft, culture and the past.
On 17 June 2025 my partner Hayley and I welcomed our daughter Cassia into the world. She has given me even more drive and determination to build something meaningful. I want this business to grow, to last and to leave a mark that she can be proud of.
If you have reached this page you probably care about the same things. If you ever want to ask about a piece, share something you have found or talk through an object, you are always welcome to get in touch. Sales keep the business running but I am genuinely happy that people visit this website simply to learn and enjoy the content. That is why the site is presented the way it is. By taking the time to look around you have already supported it more than you realise. Thank you.
